Advanced Pic Hunter is a powerful and fast image-focused download manager.

Have you ever found yourself perusing a website with dozens and perhaps more images that you wanted to download and save? If so, Advanced Pic Hunter may be the perfect solution. Right-clicking on each of those images to save them would be tedious and time-consuming. Advanced Pic Hunter, on the other hand, is an automated tool. Simply point it at the desired webpage or even domain and let it go. You do not even have to be on hand as the program goes about its tasks.

Advanced Pic Hunter is not just a download manager for images, but that is certainly its core purpose, and that singular purpose becomes further emphasized the older this app gets, which we will discuss more in the conclusion. The user interface was designed during the Windows ME error and so looks a bit long in the tooth by modern standards but actually holds up well when actually using it.

Using the core feature is simply a matter of entering a URL and clicking OK. The program will then search recursively from that point of access. It will stick to the main domain by default, but you can also set it to follow outbound links. You can dictate the number of threads the program will use, including virtual ones. You can filter by GIF or JPEG but not much else, which is again the programming showing its age. You can set minimum and/or maximum file sizes. You can have the program dump all images into a big folder or have it preserve the file structure, which lets you rerun that particular query. You even dictate what it does with updated images, such as replace or rename.

Advanced Pic Hunter is not limited to just the Web. You can have it perform similar searches locally. Locally can mean just your local PC, but it can extend throughout your local network. Preserved searches can come in handy here as well. You could, for instance, combine family photos from each user in the house. This would provide you a combined view without actually having to consolidate those images.

Advanced Pic Hunter is also an image management tool of sorts. It can even convert one image type to another, but in this golden age of powerful image management tools, Advanced Pic Hunter feels like somewhat of a dinosaur in this area. Still, if you need to download all images from a particular webpage fast, Advanced Pic Hunter continues to be a great tool. We would like to see better support for batch operations, but added features are highly unlikely at this point. Also, be careful when allowing Advanced Pic Hunter to search outbound links. Tasks can take forever, and the results can become hard to peruse.
